Local Surgeons Educate Parents And Athletes

Dr. Harry A. Bade and David R. Gentile, both orthopaedic surgeons from Professional Orthopaedic Associates, spoke to parents and athletes about knee injuries on Thursday March 20th at Holmdel High School.

The Doctors explained that there is an increased risk of knee injuries, specifically ACL injuries (anterior cruciate ligament) in female athletes. They explained anatomical and hormonal factors that may predispose female athletes to this injury.

They also emphasized the factors that help to prevent ACL injuries from occurring including a supervised strengthening and conditioning program, adequate warm up and cool down before and after activity, getting enough rest to avoid fatigue and, if possible, controlling the athletes' competitive game schedule.
