Hip
The hip is a ball and socket joint, like the shoulder, so it too has a high degree of mobility. Many athletes and non-athletes alike may suffer from hip pain, which, in turn, affects your gait and physical activities. At POA, we are committed to getting you back to the activities that you love whether it is playing ice hockey or simply taking a walk on the beach. To that end, we offer state-of-the-art care for labral tears and soft tissue injuries as well as bony problems. Sports Medicine
Sports Medicine can be defined as the branch of medicine concerned with the treatment of injuries or illness resulting from athletic activities. Many of our physicians have completed an additional year or more of sports medicine training and are now board certified in sports medicine by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Many of our physicians were athletes themselves. They understand that athletes want to return quickly. We pride ourselves on being accessible to our patients. We believe that with a timely diagnosis and treatment plan, the patient will be able to return as quickly and as safely as possible.
Professional Orthopaedic Associates has been a leader in the sports medicine community for over 25 years. Our practice is one of the first to provide on-site medical coverage for area high school varsity football games. We are also the team orthopedic physicians for Division I Monmouth University and Georgian Court University, providing physicals, weekly clinics and on-site medical coverage for football and basketball games. We also offer a Saturday Sports Medicine Clinic for Emergency Athletic Injuries for anyone who suffers from an emergency athletic injury, from professional athletes to the weekend warrior.
Microsurgery
Microsurgery refers to the use of a small surgical microscope to repair nerves, arteries and tendons. At POA, our experienced, specialty trained hand surgeons have had great success with microsurgical procedures. These state-of-the-art techniques allow the surgeon to repair and realign the delicate structures of the hand.
Total joint replacement
Our fellowship trained surgeons are experts in joint replacement surgery of the hip, knee, ankle and shoulder. A joint replacement is recommended when the joint becomes painful, stiff, and swollen due to osteoarthritis or another degenerative process. These replacement procedures have improved patients' quality of life by improving range of motion, decreasing pain and increasing activity levels. If you are suffering from joint pain that is interfering with sleep or your activities of daily living, please call our office for an appointment.
Arthroscopic surgery
Arthroscopic surgery has made knee, ankle, wrist and shoulder surgery more reliable and less invasive than traditional surgical procedures, requiring only a few tiny incisions. With today's technology, orthopaedic surgeons can now examine, diagnose and treat joint problems with the aid of an arthroscope. An arthroscope is a small, fiber-optic viewing instrument comprised of a small lens, light source and video camera. Because of this surgical procedure, there is less scarring, faster healing and quicker recovery time for our patients. |
