Dr. Gesell: Hi, I'm Dr. Mark Gesell from Professional Orthopaedics. Today, I'm going to be talking to you about total knee replacement surgery.

Knee replacement surgery is becoming a very successful operation. The number of knee replacements done is increasing every year with almost 600,000 being done every year. Knee replacements are also being done in younger patients every year. There have been a lot of advancements in knee replacement surgery, including minimally invasive surgical techniques. There have also been improvements in computer navigation to allow more accurate placement of the implants.

The newest advance is robotic-assisted total knee replacement surgery. This technology has been around for several years for partial knee replacements but is now available for total knee replacements. This allows us to accurately template and size the knee replacement specifically for you based on a CT scan that we get before surgery. This allows for a better ligamentous balancing during the surgery and allows a more accurate placement for the knee replacement. With a more balanced knee, you're gonna have a quicker recovery and get your range of motion back quicker and have a smoother, easier rehab process. There are also newer pain management strategies to help for a smoother, easier recovery after your knee replacement.

So, if you have any questions about knee replacement surgery, please call to see if you'd be a candidate.
