  • “Searching for a great doctor and surgeon is one of the most important decisions you'll ever make in your life. I have been a patient of yours for over 15 years and not only do I feel part of a medical family, one you will never find anywhere else, but I am more comfortable in my life in your very capable hands. You are a surgeon like no other and someone who is overly compassionate, has the best bedside manner you will ever experience, and a level of care that gives you a level of calm like no other. I have had 3 operations, two cervical fusions and one back anterior/posterior fusion to date and couldn't be happier with the results. My life has been changing for the better and I can't even put into words how I feel about someone that has so much care, understanding, and patience into "fixing" my body to a point where the bionic woman couldn't even compare. You and your staff are people who not only make you feel like the most important person in the room, but also make sure you are comfortable and calm every step of the way. They should be highly commended for their efforts, hard work, and professionalism. I thank you again and again for everything you have done and continue to do for me. I have seen so much in the medical field that I am actually making a career change, when I get back to work, and taking my computer skills to the medical industry. Thank you again for everything you do!”

  • “I've been coming here for years and have had 3 spinal surgeries and 1 wrist (Dr. Gentile who is equally amazing). The front office staff is so friendly, supportive and helpful (in all offices). Treatment team (radiology, nurses and surgical coordinators) are so efficient. They treat you like you're a celebrity. Doctors are so approachable, friendly and of course professional and very talented. When I went for a second opinion at a major teaching hospital, they wouldn't touch my back, saying that they respected Dr. Cohen's technique and wouldn't do anything different.”

  • “This past February I started to develop pain in the back of my shoulder that just wouldn't go away. well, after several visits to the Chiropractor with no results and now numbness and pain setting in on my arm and fingers it was suggested that I might have a neck problem which was clearly evident in the MRI. I had a severe herniation of the disc between C6 and C7. After meeting with Dr. Cohen it became clear that the surgery was a real possibility to eliminate my chronic symptoms. we tried two epidural injections that unfortunately didn't work so surgery became the solution on July 15th. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous. in the past, I've had a few minor orthopedic surgeries and never gave it a thought but when you're dealing with the spinal cord, neck and nerves, you start to think. Dr. Cohen took the time to explain the procedure in great detail with all the options available and after much consideration chose a procedure know as ACDF. I remember waking up in the recovery room after surgery completely pain free in my arm and hand with very little discomfort relating to the surgery. I was home within 24 hours and walking outside within a day, walking 4 miles per day within two weeks. I'm now going on my third week back to doing things I never thought would be possible so soon after surgery. I can thank Dr. Cohen and his staff for providing the best attention, care and treatment. It really made the difference and I will always be grateful to Dr. Cohen for his personal attention and outstanding bedside manner.”

  • “2 1/2 months after a multi-level, 4 vertebrae spinal fusion, I was swinging a golf club at 50% and playing golf. 5 months after surgery I was swinging 100% and playing two times a week. It has been 7 months since surgery and I am doing everything that a healthy 49 year old can do and then some. Thanks to Dr. Cohen. Life is good once again!”

  • “I have also treated with Dr. Gentile and Dr. Gesell. Not only are these doctors knowledgable they are all very caring doctors. If there was ever a question you always were able to discuss it with them. They were always available to discuss an issue or resolve a problem or just to give you a hug. They are not only doctors but all are very caring people which now a days is very rare. Thank you, Dr. Gentile, Dr. Cohen and Dr. Gesell for your help in treating me with my problems but also being there at some of my darkest times. Also I like to say thank you to the staff who are also professional caring and compassionate people but always returned your call or followed up with any questions. They are truly an asset to this facility. Thank you all for always making your patients feel kind they are human beings.”

  • “After years of neck and back pain, my symptoms began to inhibit my everyday life. I decided to make an appointment with Professional Orthopaedic Associates since my sons and other family members were established patients, and I chose Dr. Cohen since he specializes in spine issue. I really thought this first appointment would establish me as a patient "just in case" my condition should become more severe. After my initial appointment and subsequent MRI, Dr. Cohen explained that surgery would be my best option. I was surprised, but based on what my "untrained" eye could easily see on the MRI, I knew having the surgery sooner would be better than later. We scheduled the surgery which went very well, and eight weeks later, I'm happy to report that my recovery is going very well. I was surprised at how quickly I was able to drive, return to work, and remove the dreaded "neck brace." The entire staff at Professional Orthopaedics treated me very well as did the staff at Monmouth Medical. I should also add that Dr. Cohen has a very kind and confident demeanor, which I found comforting.”

  • “Dr. Cohen did my back surgery. I had a pinched nerve and some disc problems which was causing extreme pain to my left leg. Surgery went very well! Shortly after back surgery, while recovering at home, I fell and broke my wrist.   Dr. Johnson did my wrist surgery. Surgery went very well! Happy to say I am back to life as normal with no pain.”

  • “After three months of unrelenting pain and discomfort that was affecting the quality of my life and after unsuccessful attempts at relief with steroid injections, acupuncture and PT, surgery was recommended. I was referred by a dear friend and doctor to Dr. Jason Cohen. After reviewing my case and looking at my films, Dr. Cohen recommended anterior discectomy with fusion. This was necessary but obviously very scary. Going through this with Dr. Cohen and Professional Orthopaedic Associates gave me the best experience possible. At my first visit and every visit after that I was met by a professional, efficient, caring staff. Dr. Cohen's confident, informative, sympathetic approach helped me sort through the procedure and my options. A bonus for me was also meeting a nurse who had the same surgery as I did and being able to ask her every question I had from the actual procedure to how soon I would be able to wash my hair after surgery. I am so happy to say that my surgery was completely successful and was performed without any problems. My recovery was just as Dr. Cohen told me it would be.  I followed the instructions of Dr. Cohen and the staff throughout my recovery, and two months after my surgery I played 4 rounds of golf in 8 days! Thank you to Dr. Cohen and his wonderful staff for giving me my life back.”

  • “So far after 2 surgeries, cervical and lumbar fusion and discectomies, I have complete faith in my surgeon and his staff. My appointments are on time, no waiting, my questions are answered, my concerns never dismissed.  If I call the office, either Adrian picks up the call immediately, or promptly returns my call. Could not ask for a more pleasant, courteous, professional staff all around. Everything is handled efficiently, from appointments to billing. Very satisfied.”

  • “I had been suffering with lower back pain for some time. I appreciated Dr. Cohen not rushing into surgery and trying other means to help with my pain. But after a year of trying everything, surgery was my final option!  I was impressed with his staffs professionalism, especially Andrienne. She always had time for my questions. I was also impressed with how well everything was explained to me. I knew what to expect every step of the way.  Now almost a year later I am happy to report I have a happy, active life again! Thank you Dr. Cohen! You ARE the best!!!!!!!!”

  • “I want to express my appreciation and say thank you for allowing me to walk like I am 40ish once again instead of like a 90 year old woman. Dr. Cohen has given me my life back inside of 6 weeks. I am an active 49 year old and love to play golf. In August 2015 on a golf vacation down in Myrtle Beach, I began to fall out of nowhere. I fell four times in three days. I thought it was an old ankle injury causing my foot to feel weak. Then I noticed I could not keep up with my husband walking through the store. Normally I have to stop and wait for him because I walk very fast but my legs felt sluggish and tired. I had my usual pains in my back and took two Aleve before going to the course like I do everyday. I continued to play golf not thinking it was much of anything. The pain in my back progressively got worse over the next three days to the point that I was shuffling my feet, tripping, and could not walk. My legs now felt like they were 100 pounds each. I could not bend down to pick up my clubs or mark my ball on the green. I was in a big tournament and due to the pain that I was experiencing, I had to withdraw. When I returned home to NJ I was in Dr. Cohen's office within three days, and underwent surgery 5 days later. My back and neck are loaded with many issues, but the culprit to this problem were three herniated discs from T-11 down to L-2. They were like spears protruding into my spinal cord pinching off the nerves that allow me to move my legs. As the days went on the nerves were dying. Once the nerves die, you can't revive them. The longer you wait, the less chance of walking normal again, or at all, diminishes. Most people do not know this and wait due to the fear of surgery. They prolong the inevitable by getting injections, physical therapy, and pain medications. By the time they do have the surgery it is less effective for being 100% back to normal. I wanted to be 100% normal and have the ability to play golf again. I wanted to walk without pain and have complete mobility of my legs. So I elected to have spinal fusion on four vertebrae immediately. The way I see it; I do not want to be like my family that has a huge history of back problems. They suffer every day with pain and believe that surgery is the worst thing you can do. This stems from my uncle having back surgery in 1975 and it did not go well. He has put the fear in all of them and this type of surgery is taboo. With today's technology, along with Dr. Cohen's ability to perform such intricacies, there is no need to be afraid. I was more afraid of never walking again and being attached to a wheelchair like my mom because she waited too long, than having the surgery. Thank you Dr. Cohen for taking the time to educate me and for being sensitive to my fears. You gave me my life back and I am so grateful to have met you. You made me feel comfortable in making my decision and I had absolutely no fear before surgery. Immediately after surgery I had complete mobility in my legs and I was walking without pain just as you said I would be. I have no doubt that golf is in my future come April next year. Hope to see you out on the links!!”

  • “Dear Dr. Cohen & All the Staff at Professional Orthopaedic Associates, I have to write this thank you letter as it is the least that I can do to show my appreciation for all that you have done for me. My family and I have been patients of Dr. Chris Johnson from the beginning of time and would never dream of going anywhere else. I was suffering with tremendous pain in my neck, back, and left arm for months. I went to the chiropractor thinking it was work-related as I sit on the computer for work all day and boiled it down to poor posture and getting old. Dr. Johnson instantly sent me for an MRI and scheduled an appointment with his associate, Dr. Cohen, the following week. I was unable to sit, drive, or sleep. I was rolling on the floor in pain and the only relief I had was to stand. His exact words were, "no one will touch your spine except Dr.Cohen. He is the best and I would have him do mine." I was very nervous as a widow and sole provider for my three children that my Insurance would be an issue and I would suffer permanent injury to my spine during surgery. Dr. Cohen met with me that following week in the Tinton Falls office as he knew I had a problem driving. He reviewed my MRI films with me and explained that surgery was my only option. He confirmed that I had three herniated discs. He assured me that the insurance needs would be taken care of and all I needed to do was rest and get clearance from the hospital. Wonderful Marilyn (the Surgical Coordinator and Administrative Assistant) scheduled and organized everything for me, even down to a care package that included all expectations of the before and after surgery. She called me on a daily basis to make sure I was ok and that I had all I needed. I have lost many loved ones and am a little fearful of hospitals. Dr. Cohen explained everything in detail to me and treated me like I was one of his family members. He met with me before surgery, after surgery, and visited me that Saturday morning at 7am to see how I was doing. Needless to say, the surgery was a huge success. I was waving my left arm five hours after surgery and I was pain free. I had not done that for months. My scar is so tiny that I can hardly see it. I was also surprised to find out that he had gifted me with a bone growth stimulator that costs over $2,000 that my insurance company would not pay for. Dr. Cohen...thank you a million times over. I will never forget your kindness and being the master surgeon you are. Wishing you continued success in your career. Keep up the great work. YOU ARE THE GREATEST!!!....Bless you.”

  • “My back was so bad I could not even pick up my 4 yr old for almost a year. One wrong move shut me down for days. I tried everything. I was referred to Dr. Cohen from my pain management doctor. He has made me a new person. Everyone is amazed at how I am pain free and back in the gym. Every time I pick up my son now he always says, "Mommy, I am so glad you can pick me up again," and I get a big hug. Priceless. Dr. Cohen is the most amazing man. I refer everyone to him.”

  • “Dear Dr. Cohen, I would like to take this time to say thank you. Through both of my spinal surgeries (one for spinal stenosis in my lower back) you made me feel at ease and confident that my physical condition would vastly improve. You are not only a master surgeon, technically, but you are a really great physician. You care for the complete patient and that makes all the difference in the world. You showed respect and understanding for my spiritual an physical concerns, which I sincerely appreciate. I just want to say that I appreciate all that you've done for me and you are THE BEST!!! I hope that my surgery days are past. Continue being the doctor that you are, a fine and excellent surgeon, a great teacher and a caring person. May you continue to have a successful career but most of all, may you have a successful and Blessed life.”

  • “Dear Dr. Cohen and staff, I had to write and thank you for giving me back my LIFE! I feel excellent and I am doing some of the things I love to do. When I came to you I was quite desperate and worried about my future. It's not just my job (teaching 2nd grade) that was in jeopardy, it was my livelihood. I have a teenager and two young children to care for, as well as an active sporting life that I was not ready to give up. From my first visit you and everyone there (Marilyn and Adrienne especially) were so kind and understanding. The insurance company was making things very difficult for me. Out you were always available to answer my questions and ease my concerns. Thank you again! (And the scars aren't even so bad, by the way :)”

  • “The proof is in the video of me skiing- spinal fusion works! Dr. Cohen, thank you so much! In June, I couldn't walk, then I had my surgery. In July I rode my bike 20 miles after spinal surgery. By Labor day, I jogged a half mile. In September I was able to jog to a run at least two miles and I was swimming every other day. I started back skiing in December and I was able to be aggressive right from the get-go, powder skiing most of the winter, then onto being aggressive in the bumps, but slow! The biggest believer out there is me!! Thanks again.”

  • “In May 2008 and we began the odyssey of repairing my horrendous spine. My neck surgery in July 2008 was a 100% success in less than three months. Seven months later my lower spine surgery was complete. By November, I was starting to have many days with no pain at all. You have given me back my life and my dignity, Dr. Cohen. You are a gift to my life and may you be blessed for making me human again. My 'thank you' seems so small compared to all youve done, but it comes from my heart.”

  • “I want to thank Dr. Jason Cohen and the staff at Professional Orthopaedic Associates for the care and support that I received throughout my procedure. From the time of my first phone call for my initial visit, to the most recent post-surgery check-up, I never felt as a “number,” but as someone as important as a family member. Dr. Cohen was very compassionate to the pain I was feeling as well as making me feel more at ease with the surgical procedure that was inevitable. The pain from the collapsed disc was so unbearable, that whenever I would cough or laugh, the pain would bring me to tears. As instructed by Dr. Cohen, the physical therapy made the recovery from the removing of the disc and the fusion of the two vertebrae very fast. It has now been over 2 years after the surgery, and I’ve never felt better. My husband reminds me that the scar from the incision is virtually invisible. Once again, thank you to a wonderful doctor and staff!!”
