Dr. Glenn Gabisan Helps Patient Return to the Trails After a Shattered Heel
At Professional Orthopaedic Associates, helping patients return to the activities they love is at the heart of what we do. For Heike B., that meant getting back on the hiking trail.
Nearly seven years ago, Heike slid off a rock beneath Bridalveil Falls in Yosemite National Park and shattered her heel bone. She was treated by Dr. Glenn Gabisan and recently wrote to him to share an update on her journey.
During a nine-month leave of absence from teaching, Heike traveled across both of New Zealand's islands in a camper van, completing mountain climbs and multi-day hikes that added up to more than 400 miles, often while carrying a heavy backpack. This spring, she reached the summit of Ben Lomond on New Zealand's South Island.
"This time, no accidents! But lots and lots of hikes," Heike wrote. "My right foot complained a little but never once failed me."
Along the way, Heike shared her story with fellow hikers and says she looks forward to thanking Dr. Gabisan and the Professional Orthopaedic Associates team in person on her next visit to New Jersey.
