William J. Gallagher, MD, CAQSM

William Gallagher, MD, is a fellowship-trained, board-certified sports medicine specialist. He received his master’s degree in biomedical sciences from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Health Sciences. He went on to complete his residency in family medicine at Hoboken University Medical Center and followed with a fellowship in primary care sports medicine at Penn State College of Medicine. During this fellowship, he participated in the care for The Pennsylvania State University sports teams as well as the State College Spikes, a St. Louis Cardinals minor league team.

Dr. Gallagher specializes in a wide array of adolescent and adult orthopaedic injuries. He provides care to athletes and nonathletes with acute musculoskeletal injuries, chronic overuse conditions, nonsurgical fractures, and concussions, and he has a special interest in injury prevention. He also treats patients interested in alternatives to surgery using various treatment strategies, including ultrasound-guided procedures, such as steroid injections, hyaluronic acid injections, nerve hydrodissection, orthobiologics, and focused rehabilitative therapy regimens.

Dr. Gallagher's dedication to sports medicine extends beyond clinical practice, with extensive sports coverage experience serving as the team physician for several local high schools since moving back to New Jersey. He has worked with athletes across a spectrum of sporting events, from community-level intramural competitions to elite-level professional sports leagues. Additionally, he has covered the New York City and Marine Corps marathons. In an academic capacity, Dr. Gallagher served as a primary care sports medicine instructor at Hackensack Meridian Health Ocean University Medical Center family residency and is an associate professor at Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine. Board-certified in family medicine and sports medicine, he actively contributes to professional organizations, advancing research and education in sports medicine.

Dr. Gallagher is passionate about promoting health, wellness, and performance optimization in athletes of all levels. He is focused on helping his patients manage their acute and chronic injuries so they may maintain active and healthy lifestyles.
