My Comeback Story: David G.
When I was initially informed in October 2024 that the excruciating pain in my left hip, which had progressively worsened over the last 3 years, could only be remedied through a complete replacement, I was nervous at the thought of surgery and the entire end-to-end process. However, after consulting with the amazing Dr. Gesell and his fabulous surgical coordinator, Patricia (Patti) Mann, I felt so much more at ease, and the challenges of the surgery became much less daunting.
Patti facilitated every step of the process, knows all the ins and outs at Monmouth Medical where the surgery was performed, and everyone there knows her and raves about her and Dr. Gesell. She was available and super responsive to every question that I had. For anyone who has dire hip pain and is contemplating surgery, I highly encourage you to make the decision to have it done. It was the best decision I ever made.
Though in my early 50s, I was highly active and enjoyed long-distance running, lifting weights, and getting up on the dance floor at weddings and parties. But the pain in my hip had become so unbearable that I could barely get in and out of my car or walk for more than 10 minutes.
Today, nearly one year after the surgery, I'm a completely different person. Though my hip cannot take the pounding of long-distance running anymore, I am back to working out 4-5 days a week, putting in the miles on my stationary bike, and going for long walks with my wife without any pain. Going up and down the stairs in my home had been a daily challenge, honestly a nightmare, for me. Today, I can go up and down the same stairs over and over again with absolutely no pain.
I did every bit of "pre-hab" and post-op physical therapy as prescribed by Dr. Gesell and his team, and it made a huge difference in my recovery. It even helped alleviate a significant portion of my lower back pain! The surgery was an absolute gamechanger for me and my quality of life. Thank you, Dr. Gesell and the Professional Orthopaedic team, for getting me back to my old self!
