  • “I couldn´t have been more thrilled about my half year´s tourist visa. A dream came true. Two months into traveling, I slid off a rock at Yosemite NP and broke my foot. The dream turned into a nightmare. Over the next three days, my foot´s x-rays were examined by three different doctors: an emergency doctor, a radiologist and an orthopaedist. In the end I was told that there was a heel fracture that would heal by itself. I wasn´t willing to give up on my traveling plans yet and figured I could let the foot heal for some weeks while staying with friends in New Jersey. Those friends, when they heard my story, immediately recommended Professional Orthopaedic Associates for me to have a second (fourth) opinion. Dr. Gabisan knew right away that this was a serious injury and surgery was needed. He identified a dislocated tendon as part of the problem even before the CT scan confirmed it. I did not like what I heard, in fact, I was deeply shocked. But the clear, calm and unwavering way in which Dr. Gabisan delivered that bad news made me trust in his expertise right away. I underwent surgery and two weeks later, looked at the new x-rays. There are no words for the relief and joy that I felt when I saw with my own eyes that everything inside my foot was back in place. I cannot even begin to think what my further life would have looked like, had I believed the first doctors and let the foot be. Most likely, my mobility would have been limited for the rest of my life. I´m an active person: being out there in nature, hiking and climbing, means the world to me. But it wasn´t only the fact that Dr. Gabisan fixed the foot so beautifully. During a time of emotional turmoil, he and his team took care of me with so much kindness and gentle patience that I cannot help but feel the deepest of gratefulness. Sometimes a smile, an open ear and the willingness to explain things for a third time, when a patient feels upset, stressed and confused, seem just as important as medical expertise and surgical skills. I felt seen as a person with a story, with tremendous anxieties and hopes, not just "the fractured heel". After three doctors screwed it up, I was fortunate enough to find Dr. Gabisan to screw me together. Even though my travels are over for the time being, I know now that I will be able to travel again and explore new places of beauty and wonder on two healthy and strong feet. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to a wonderful team, to a doctor who has clearly had a vocation for doing exactly what he does, for the benefits of everyone lucky enough to discover this practice. Dear. Dr Gabisan, you will always be my he(el)ro.”

  • “Dr. Gesell, From the time I called and made an appointment up until the time of surgery, I had felt support from Dr. Gesell and his staff, i.e.; Amanda Aversa, Lisa Vito, and Colleen Rackett. No question was too silly and they always made time to answer my questions. Dr. Gesell put me at ease at the first visit and my MRI revealed that I had a torn rotator cuff (in my shoulder). Dr. Gesell had me go to physical therapy first, but, the pain never subsided. It was my choice to have the surgery when I did. The entire experience went much better than I expected and having the surgery at the Surgical Center proved to be an excellent choice. The nurses were gracious and the anesthesiologist was impeccable. The entire procedure went smoothly. I had a nerve block put in before the surgery, which helped me to cope for the three days following the surgery. Recovery is a long process. There are good and bad pain days. I am having passive physical therapy now and see Dr. Gesell this Friday. Dr Gesell always stressed that recovery will take time...and patience is key. I would gladly recommend Dr "G" as a surgeon. He has definitely won me over with his skill as a surgeon and his ability to communicate to his patient and their family.”

  • “Dear Dr. Bade, Each morning as I walk down my long driveway to retrieve my New York Times, I both say a prayer to God for the agility I have in making this trek, and to thank Him further for gifting you with the hands that made it possible. I am sure I am not in your memory, as you are a busy surgeon, but you remain in mine almost daily as I walk with a degree of grace and wear shoes with heels and can maintain my equilibrium. My full recovery did not set in until approximately two years after my operation, but the entire process from surgery to rehabilitation was so well coordinated and efficient that it led to me being pain free and a mobile woman once again. This short message has been running around in my head for a long time, and I am finally able to put my thoughts to paper, and want to once again say Thank You for the hard work you do in your profession, and for making me feel so "whole" again.”

  • “I have also treated with Dr. Gentile and Dr. Gesell. Not only are these doctors knowledgable they are all very caring doctors. If there was ever a question you always were able to discuss it with them. They were always available to discuss an issue or resolve a problem or just to give you a hug. They are not only doctors but all are very caring people which now a days is very rare. Thank you, Dr. Gentile, Dr. Cohen and Dr. Gesell for your help in treating me with my problems but also being there at some of my darkest times. Also I like to say thank you to the staff who are also professional caring and compassionate people but always returned your call or followed up with any questions. They are truly an asset to this facility. Thank you all for always making your patients feel kind they are human beings.”

  • “I fell on my left arm and went to the ER with a follow up three days later with Dr. Johnson. Since my arm was still swollen, he was extremely patient and put a splint on my arm followed by a cast the following week. Dr. Johnson then put a removable splint on a few weeks later and recommended I go for physical therapy. I found Dr. Johnson very competent and knew exactly the proper course of action.”

  • “My experience with Dr. Gesell was good. My knee is healing well, and I liked the fact that I saw Dr. Gesell for post surgery follow up checks instead of a PA, etc. I was always treated with kindness, and Dr. Gesell is an excellent surgeon. Dr. Gesell's care was so much more beautiful and better. ”

  • “I called in on a Friday with a bit of an emergency for my son's broken thumb. The friendly receptionist was happy to assist me in getting me in that day to see Dr. Bade. Dr. Bade and John, his assistant, were terrific in addressing all of our concerns. My son was starting a job as a lifeguard the next day, and Dr. Bade put him at ease with having him use a brace for a few days at lifeguarding until his scheduled surgery. He assured my son that he was going to be healed and back to lifeguarding this season with no problem. Surgery went as planned and Dr.Bade was even very patient when my son accidentally got the cast wet, and he had to re-cast him. In early July the cast came off, and David's thumb is healed. He is back to fulltime lifeguard duties! Thank you to Dr.Bade and the excellent staff at Professional Orthopaedic Associates.”
