David R. Gentile, MD, FACS, has dual board certifications in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine with a fellowship in upper extremity, hand, and microsurgery. He specializes in arthroscopic surgery for the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, and knee injuries and musculoskeletal conditions. Dr. Gentile joined Professional Orthopaedic Associates in 1998. He serves as the chief of hand surgery within the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey, where he has been a member of the orthopedic residency teaching faculty since 1998.
Dr. Gentile completed his bachelor’s degree at Drew University in Madison, New Jersey, and graduated magna cum laude. He earned his medical degree from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in Newark, New Jersey, in 1992. He pursued an internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey. Following residency, Dr. Gentile completed an upper extremity, hand, and microvascular fellowship at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah, with additional training in microvascular surgery at Columbia University in New York City, New York. He recently participated in arthroscopic rotator cuff research with the Arthroscopy Association of North America and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine in Rosemont, Illinois.
With extensive training in orthopedic sports medicine surgery, arthroscopy, and hand surgery, Dr. Gentile is an expert in shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, knee, and nerve surgery. His expertise includes arthroscopic rotator cuff, labrum, and knee ligament surgery, cubital and carpal tunnel surgery, Dupuytren’s surgery, and biologic and Xiaflex injection therapy. He also specializes in elbow contracture release, elbow, wrist, and hand fracture surgery, as well as tendon surgery of the wrist and hand. He performs minimally invasive surgery procedures of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, and knee.
Dr. Gentile is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the American College of Surgeons. He has been recognized by his peers as a New Jersey Monthly Top Doctor for fourteen consecutive years and was featured in American Health Front in 2019.
When he is not seeing patients, Dr. Gentile enjoys snowboarding, hiking, and spending time with his wife and family in Montana.
